An estimated 510,000 Florida residents age 65 or older currently have Alzheimer’s disease. According to a 2016 Alzheimer’s Association report, the incidence of the disease is projected to climb by 41% and affect 720,000 older adults by the year 2025 in the Sunshine state. To help meet the growing demand for memory care, assisted living and health care services, Village on the Green, a senior living community, announces plans for a $50.5 million expansion and redevelopment project. Construction is slated to begin in late 2017. The expansion includes a new assisted living and memory support building, as well as adding 20 new residential living villas in the community. The project also includes renovations to the current clubhouse to add a new fitness center, spa, additional restaurants and other amenities.
Village on the Green is currently home to nearly 350 residents, and features 246 residential living apartment homes and villas, and a variety of services and amenities. The community also provides skilled nursing and rehab services on campus as part of its Life Care plan. The expansion will add a new Health Center with an additional 36 assisted living apartments, 18 memory support suites and 60 skilled nursing care suites.
“Our current Health Center is recognized as one of the top senior health care service providers in Florida, and this expansion will help us build upon that,” said Doug Fleegle, executive director of Village on the Green. The community is honored by the state with the Gold Seal Award for excellence in long-term care, an honor held by only four percent of all skilled
nursing providers statewide. In addition, the community holds a 5-Star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). “The new Health Center building, along with the other additions and enhancements to support an independent and active lifestyle of residents, is an ideal combo to serve the older adults in the Orlando area for years to come,” said Fleegle.
Renovations to the commons areas at Village on the Green will feature a modern design with private courtyards and attractive views of the grounds. Renovations to the clubhouse include a new fitness center, spa and new dining venues, as well as an enlarged auditorium for more educational and entertainment events.
“Our organization is committed to reinvesting in communities to provide top-quality lifestyle and health service options that seniors can get all in one place,” said Kevin Knopf, regional director of operations for Lifespace Communities, Inc., Village on the Green’s parent company. “We’re excited to leverage our organization’s strength to make an even greater impact on serving seniors, enhancing the resident experience and building stronger ties in the greater Longwood area. This expansion and redevelopment project will give people yet another reason to live, work or play at Village on the Green, and we look forward to it.”
