Ron and Nancy: Enjoying the Good Life Together

Imagine experiencing the freedom of independent living with your lifelong partner by your side. For Ron and Nancy Kennedy, moving to Village on the Green paved the way for an exciting new chapter filled with everything they wanted and very little of what they were ready to leave behind.

Say Goodbye to Frustrating Home Tasks

After 28 years in their house, Ron and Nancy decided to start a new chapter of life. After downsizing, they moved to Village on the Green together, and it didn’t take long for them to see the benefits in their daily lives.

“[My friend] kept saying, ‘Don’t bring a lot of kitchen things, you’re not going to have to cook a lot. And I love to cook, but the planning and the shopping, I don’t have to do any of that anymore, and it’s lovely,” Nancy said.

“There’s no more home repairs, no more maintenance,” Ron added, “No more meal planning for us! We just get to enjoy the good life.”

Independent Living that Suits Your Life

For this vivacious couple, part of that good life hinged on being able to continue activities and social outings they enjoyed before moving into an independent living community.

“It’s so nice that we haven’t had to move away from our church or our friends,” Nancy said, noting that both she and Ron have explored the many classes and activities offered within the community. “We didn’t have to give up all of our hobbies.”

“I still go to my Thursday night poker over in the springs, I still golf with the same group of people who don’t live here,” Ron said.

The ability to combine the aspects of their pre-community living life they loved most with the added services and amenities of community life has given the couple a grateful and excited view for the future.

Simplifying Life to Enjoy More Than Ever

One of the things Ron is most impressed with about community life is the simplicity of maintaining a lifestyle that allows people to be as free, active, and involved as they desire.

“It’s surprising when you sit down and really look at your monthly expenses. If we maintained this [lifestyle] at home, we’d be spending a lot more money than we are now,” Ron said. “Life is simpler.”

For Nancy, that simplicity has cleared a path for more community involvement that she finds fulfilling.

“You can enjoy the pool, the classes, meeting new friends. Ron has done Tai Chi, and I’ve done sweating with Helen, she is so wonderful,” Nancy said. “And we’ve been so welcomed by the residents.”
